Who is your favorite lady detective from movies, books, or TV?
Sue Grafton’s Kinsey Milhone would probably bristle at the term “lady detective.” She rarely wears dresses, never wears makeup, and cuts her own hair with her nail scissors. She’s also fiercely independent and stubbornly solitary – at times to her own detriment. In addition to her quirks and foibles, I appreciate how she has remained her own self as the series progresses, while at the same time plausibly adjusting to changes in her life. I’m very much looking forward to December to find out what happens in her next adventure.
Also in the running are Margaret Maron’s Deborah Knott, Nevada Barr’s Anna Pigeon, and Linda Barnes’s Carlotta Carlyle. I’ve just started getting to know Laura Lippman’s Tess Monaghan, and I’m always looking for new friends too.
